HIERLIHY, Joan –Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex on January 18, 2009, Joan Hierlihy, age 89 years. Predeceased by her husband Oscar G. Hierlihy; her brothers: James Butler, John J. Butler and Bertram Butler; her sister Daisy (Tot) Hopkins. Leaving to mourn her daughters: Marilyn (Joseph White), Jo-Anne (Brian Cosier); her sons: Jim Hierlihy (Barbara Newell), John Hierlihy; sisters: Vicki Cheeseman, Margarite Drover and Flora Lougheed; brother Fred Butler; grandchildren: Barbara (Gerard Hynes), Dianne (Claude Randell), Jackie (Jesse O’Donaghey), Stephen Griffiths (Corrina Ingram), Karl Griffiths (Tina Parker), Heather and Gillian Cosier, Adrienne (Walter Tilley), Paul Hierlihy (Kelli Lush); as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Funeral service 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009, from Topsail United Church. Interment to follow at Topsail United Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are being gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Spina Bifida Association.
