HOOD, LEONA VERA (DORCAS)
The passing of Leona Vera Hood of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Vernon Hood, occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on August 30, 1931 in Maple Grove, NB she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Myrtle (Donally) Cornish.
Leona was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church and past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Branch #4.
Leona is survived by her daughters, Valerie Dorcas of Halifax, NS and Bev Stymiest (Howard) of Fredericton, NB; son, Kenneth Dorcas (Myrna) of Riverview, NB; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; half-sister, Jean Harris of Cornwall, ON; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Leona was predeceased by her first husband, Royce Dorcas; son, Robert Dorcas; sister, Eva Thomas; brothers, Irvine and Ian Cornish; half-brother, Theodore Merritt; half-sister, Gladys Flinn.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. J. D. Kennedy officiating. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date.
