FINNEGAN, HAROLD B.
(June 22, 1931 - March 09, 2015)
The family of Harold Finnegan sadly announces his sudden passing at his home in North Vancouver. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Harold spent most of his early years with his family in St. Martins, New Brunswick.
Always interested in all things military, he first became a school cadet and four years later joined the New Brunswick Princess Louise Hussars. In 1950 he joined the Canadian Army Special Force for Korea and served in the Korean War. He took a two year release but rejoined the Regular Force to begin a 20 year career of postings in Canada, South Vietnam, Cambodia, North Vietnam, two postings to Cyprus and three years in Germany. He retired in 1975 and made his home on the West Coast where he was actively involved with the North Vancouver Korean Veterans Association and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Harold is survived by his two sons Harold (Sharon), step-grandson Lucas of Mississauga, Ontario and James (Maralisa), grandchildren Natalie, Justin and Erin of Cambridge, Ontario. Harold is also survived by his sister Dorothy Merryweather of Quispamsis, New Brunswick and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Shirley (nee Ervine) and second wife Ruby (nee Agar), soul mate Margaret Samson and parents Harold and Rose (nee St. Onge) Finnegan and sister Viola Marks of Saint John, New Brunswick.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14th at 11am at the Lynn Valley Legion Branch #114, of which Harold was a member, with the Reverend Lizz Lindsay presiding.
