Winifred
passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the age of 76, while visiting Tucson, Arizona. Winnie was born on August 7, 1938 in Bay de l'Eau, NL, to Arthur and Gladys Evans. Her family later relocated to English Harbour West. At the age of 16 she left home and moved to St. John's where she trained and worked in the nursing profession. Winnie met Gordon and they married on June 7, 1957. Winnie was a devoted wife and proud Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved and cherished family and friends dearly. She was active in St. Augustine's Church choir for many years and volunteered at St. Luke's. She was predeceased by her father Arthur in 1995, her mother Gladys in 2014, her sister Dinah in 1949, and her loving husband Gordon in 1999. Left with wonderful and loving memories are her daughter Rhonda and Brian Alexander of British Columbia; sons Gordon (Geoff) and Marilyn, Gary and Yvonne; and daughter Corinne and Dave Dawe; eight grandchildren, Cody (Eta), Melissa (Philippe), Jason (Melanie), Candice (British Columbia), Brandon (Krystal), Mitchell, Meagan and Aaron; and one great grandchild, Abel. Also left with fond memories are her sisters and brothers: Linda and Roger Rouleau, Frank and Bessie Evans, Bertha Gaulton, Freeman and Marion Evans, Lucy and John Snook, Dinah and Ed Savoury, Tom and Margo Evans, Bev and Gerry Breon, Gordon and Nora Evans, Carol Ann and Joe Dominix, Roger and Roberta Evans, Barry and Maureen Evans, Karen and Barry Hancock. Winnie's journey through life will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and large circle of friends. Relatives and friends may visit the family at Carnell's funeral home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday from 10 - noon, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 10 - noon, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral service will take place on Tuesday April 7, 2015 at noon from St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Westerland Road. Cremation to follow, Interment of Ashes will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was also held in Arizona (USA) on April 3, 2015.
