WALLACE, MARJORIE ALICE
1920 - 2015
Peacefully, at The Moncton Hospital, on Saturday, April 4th, 2015, the death occurred of Marjorie Wallace (nee Hennessy,) age 94 years.
Marjorie was born in Moncton in 1920 and raised in Irishtown, NB. She attended local schools and was in the first class that graduated from Moncton High School in 1936. She attended Success Business College and spent the next 12 years living and working in Moncton. She married Lawrence Wallace in 1952.
Marjorie is survived by son, Bob (Maureen) Wallace, Riverview, daughter, Anne-Marie Wallace, Vancouver, sister, Audrey, grandchildren Darcy, Tyler, Shawna, and Erin Wallace, sister-in-law, Kay Hennessy and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, parents, John and Margaret (Kelly) Hennessy, and brother, Everett.
When the Government of Canada decided to construct CFB Gagetown, Lawrence and Marjorie moved from Moncton to Lower Lincoln, NB. Marjorie was employed by Defense Construction Limited (DCL) and later joined Emergency Measures where she retired with the position of Assistant Regional Director. Upon retirement she maintained residences in Clearwater Beach, Florida and Queen Court Condos in Moncton. Her most recent home was at Residences Moncton Residence, where the staff provided wonderful care for which the family are very grateful.
Marjorie attended St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the CWL. She was also a proud member of the local chapter of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association and loved to attend the meetings and events. She celebrated her final St. Patrick’s Day with a feed of corned beef and cabbage brought in to her at the hospital.
In her later years her cousin and local historian, Shirley Cail, was a true companion. Shirley helped Marjorie track her Hennessy ancestors back 5 generations to 1819 when they arrived in Canada from Co. Kilkenny, Ireland.
At Marjorie’s request, there will be no visitation. The funeral will be held at St. Bernard’s Church in Moncton on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends and relatives at a reception to follow at St Bernard’s Church Hall. Interment will take place at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Irishtown at a later date. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007).
