It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Philip Joseph Long, age 86, a lifelong resident of North Sydney, on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late George and Nora (Strickland) Long.
Phil was employed as a stevedore with CN Marine, later Marine Atlantic until his retirement. He was an avid harness racing fan and enjoyed going to the race track on Saturdays to watch the races. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Phil is survived by his wife Alice (Pardy) Long; daughters, Janice Marie Day, North Sydney and Allison Louise Osborne, Calgary; by a son Craig (Kim) Osborne, Washington; five grandchildren, Ryan Day, Nicole Day, Meagan Osborne, Colin Junior Osborne and Kurt Osborne; his two sisters, Gladys (John) O’Quinn, London, Ont., Georgina (Dave) Gillis, North Sydney, also by a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Phil was predeceased by his brother Elmer Long.
No visitation or funeral service by request. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
