Norby J. Meldrum

Meldrum, J. Norby – Age 90, of Halfway River passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in New Canaan, he was a son of the late Medley and Gladys (Rector) Meldrum. Norby was a veteran of World War II serving with the Carleton-York Regiment with the infantry, serving primarily in the Italian Campaign. He returned to Nova Scotia where he married Eudora Pettigrew, soon moving to British Columbia for four years. He returned to Nova Scotia where he worked with C. Ernest Harrison & Sons Ltd. for many years. He later was employed as a Game Warden with the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forests (Natural Resources) retiring in 1984. He was a member of Trinity United Church, Parrsboro, where he served as an elder for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Southampton Lodge. He is survived by daughters, Darlene Canning (Kerr), Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que.; Marilyn Winters (Robert), Penhold, Alta.; grandchildren Jill Winters (Mike Parkin), Innisfail, Alta.; Shelley Ganton (Nick), Devon, Alta.; Leah Canning, Ottawa; Caroline Canning (Sean Weaver), Eastern Passage; great grandchildren, Jorja Winters, Brooklyn Ganton, Kellen Ganton, Maggie Weaver, Jaxon Winters-Parkin; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 2004 by his wife of 58 years, Eudora; a daughter and son in infancy; sisters, Elsie Siddall, Jean Pettigrew; a brother Laurie. Visitation 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Trinity United Church, Parrsboro, Keith Selwyn-Smith, DLM officiating. Reception to follow. Burial in the West Brook Cemetery at a later date.
