Age 68 of Dartmouth and recently of Orleans, ON, passed away Thursday April 16th, 2015, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, NS. Born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Eleanor Collins. Bernice retired as an R.N. with the IWK after a 27 year career, working with children and their families fighting cancer. She was an active member of the NS Chapter of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology. Bernice was an avid gardener, reader and music lover. She enjoyed travel, bridge and all things Irish. Bernice is survived by her husband of 45 years, Donald Dawe; sons, Ian, B.C., Neal (Emilie), Ottawa, ON; mother-in-law, Rita; sisters, Catherine (Dennis) King, Paulette (Bill) Pilgrim, Deidre (Wade) Hynes; sisters-in-law, Beverley (Russell) Simmons, Margaret Dawe, Lorraine Dawe; brothers, Aiden (Paulette), Paul (Debbie); brother-in-law, Ivan (Patricia); the joy of her life, her grandchildren, Simone, Weston and Nora; as well as a large circle of friends and extended family. Besides her parents, Bernice was predeceased by her brother, Gerard; niece, Ellen Pilgrim; brothers-in-law, Byron and Merrick. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 21st at Atlantic Funeral Homes. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2:00 p.m. at Saint John XXIII formerly Pope John XXIII in Colby Village, with Father Owen Connelly officiating. Interment will follow in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the medical and nursing staff of the Cancer Centre at the Ottawa Hospital, Care for Nurses in Ottawa, VON in Halifax, the medical and nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital and Dr. V. Gregus as well as friends and neighbors in Halifax and Orleans.
