Howard Gallant, age 86, was promoted to Glory to be with his Lord on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, in Hamilton, Ont. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (nee Stewart) and the son of the late George and Lucy Gallant of Cavendish. Howard was the precious and dearly loved father of Ellen Scott, Rebecca (Dave) Jepson, Byron (Melissa) Gallant, Mavis (Carl) Gallant-Pursey, Alisha Craig-Gallant and Howard (Vera) O’Brien; and grandfather of seven cherished grandchildren, Victoria, Wesley, Keirsten, Sarah, Emma, Racheal and Grace. He is survived by his sister, Maud Cudmore. Howard was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest and Clarence and sister, Gertie Peters. Howard was a devout Christian and a founding member of West Highland Baptist Church in Hamilton, Ont. A decorated veteran of the Second World War, part of his wartime service was spent on the dangerous Murmansk run between Skapa Flow, Scotland and Murmansk, Russia. He served with the allied fleet on D-Day. Howard was dearly loved by all, for his gentle and kind nature, wit and strength of character. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Rd., New Glasgow, for visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Central Queen’s Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Howard’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
