It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Lorne Pero, who died peacefully at his home on May 13, 2015.
Born in Florence on July 11, 1930, he was the son of the late John 'Jack' and Rebecca (Bonnar) Pero. He worked in the coal mines the majority of his life. He was known to be a good swimmer, dancer, and card player. He was a quiet, unassuming person, with a kind, gentle heart who was well liked by everyone he came in touch with.
Lorne is survived by his son, Robbie (Giselle); daughters, Paula (Donnie Keeling) and Peggy (Renee Gaudet); brothers, Bazil (Pat) and Jim (Frances) Pero; sisters, Eileen Moore, Elva King, and Rebecca (Bunnie) Hector DiPersio and his loving grandchildren, Rebeka, Victoria, Jillian, Samantha and RJ and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Raymond, Alex, Jack and William 'Dick' Pero and sisters, Mae Ivey and Millie Coady, the mother of his children, Patricia (Robertson)(Pero)Norman and his companion of many years, Geraldine (Elliott) Myalls.
In respect of Lorne’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. A celebration of Lorne’s life will be held at Holy Family Church in Sydney Mines on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10 a.m., with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating.
