It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, John Joseph MacLellan, at the age of 82.
Joe passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, May 18, 2015, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John A. and Margaret (MacInnis) MacLellan.
He formerly belonged to St. Eugene's Church, Dominion, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Joe began his working life with the Sydney Louisbourg Railway and in turn the Devco Railway. Later, Joe returned to school as a mature student, earning a degree from St. Francis Xavier University. He then accepted a position with Cape Breton Development Corporation's Group Benefits Division until his retirement. Joe had a love of plants and gardening.
Joe will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Catherine (Kaye Morrison); sons, Gerard (Lynn), Ian (Alicia), both of the Halifax area, Paul, Kitchener, Ontario; grandchildren, Matthew, Lana, Kayla, Briana, Holly, Emily, Liam, Fraser, Tesa; and great-grandchild, Marion.
Besides, his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Fraser Charles in 2012 and his sister, Mary Hiscott.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2015, in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, N.S., with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in St. Anne's Cemetery, Glace Bay. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In an expression of sympathy for Joe, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Crohns and Colitis foundation of Canada.
