John Thomas "Jack" Casey

John Thomas "Jack" Casey

Date de naissance : 2 juillet 1922

Date de décès : 15 juin 2015

Passed away at WMRH surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, June 15, 2015. Our husband, Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, John Thomas "Jack" Casey, formerly of Conche, resided in Pasadena for the past 23 years, and now residing at Deer Lake Manor, in his 92nd year, 17 days shy of turning 93 years young. Born in Conche, the son of Michael and Norah (Sullivan) Casey, and the last surviving member of his family. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by sisters, Ellen Shannon, Maude O'Neil, Lucy Whelan, and Kay Casey; brothers, Bernard, Clifford, Vincent and his beloved grandson, Bryan Norman (2011). Left to mourn, with loving memories, his wife, of 68 years, Edna (Kearney); his children: Helen Norman (Roy - Deceased), Kay O'Connor (Pat), Shirley Purchase (Wayne-deceased), Donna Foss (Carl), Gary Casey, and Linda Mishimagi (Tomo); nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Rod), Janice, Adrian (Laura), Kim (Matt), Laura, Andrew (Nicole), Shannon, Nicolas and Tatiana; six great-grandchildren: Samantha, Holly, Paige, Nicki, Taylor and Abby. Also left to mourn nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbours, friends and "family" at Deer Lake Manor. Our Dad enjoyed history, current events and relating stories of when he grew up in the War and Depression era. He started fishing when he was but 14 years old, and continued to do so into his late 70s. He loved wood-working and spent endless hours whittling and carving. One of his many accomplishments was boat building; he built numerous boats and trap skiffs, including a 35-foot long-liner, appropriately named the "John & Vincent". He was quite opinionated over the close of the commercial cod/salmon fishery and subsequent Moratorium, and felt the "Food Fishery" an insult to commercial fishermen. Visitation to take place at Holy Rosary Parish Hall on Tuesday between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church, Pasadena on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Monsignor Edwin Gale officiating. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, North Harbour Road, Pasadena. Reception will follow at Holy Rosary Parish Hall. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Country Haven Funeral Home, Corner Brook, NL. The family guest book may be signed by visiting www.country-haven.ca.
