It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Peggy O’Connell, 86, of New Waterford, at Oceanview Manor, Eastern Passage, N.S. on July 13, 2015.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late John and Cassie MacLellan.
Peggy moved to Norwood, Mass. in 1958, where she raised her family before moving back to New Waterford in 1973. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Nora (Ray) Searles of Dartmouth; son-in-law, Bruce Smith of Pickering, Ont.; grandchildren, Daniel (Karen) Peori of Halifax, Mark (Brianne) Peori of Dartmouth, Jason Smith and Sommer Smith, both of Pickering, Ont.; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Tobey, Charlie, Veronica, Jaxon and Desmond, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Kay (Smith) and brothers, Sidney and Eric MacLellan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
