The death occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, of Derek Hughes, of Summerside, aged 90 years. Veteran of the Second World War, he served as a Flying Officer with the R.A.F. Born in Shrewsbury, England, he was the son of the late Albert and Ethel (Gifford) Hughes. Survived by his wife of 70 years Hazel (Nicholson) Hughes; children Brenda (Gordon) Sheculski, Summerside; Sheila (Jim) Dunbar, Riverview, NB; and Kevin Hughes, Dartmouth, NS; grandchildren Jeff, Sarah, Shauna, Amanda, Joel, David and Derek; and by great-grandchildren Kaitlynn, Cameron and Delilah. Predeceased by his daughter-in-law Pam (Turner) Hughes. Resting at Moase Funeral Home, Summerside. A private family service will be held. Interment in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley.
