Murray Johnston

JOHNSTON, MURRAY GORDON
1923 - 2015
After a long and happy life, Murray Gordon Johnston, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Riverview surrounded by loved ones and family.
Murray was the third son of the late George B. and Blanche (McNair) Johnston.
Besides his parents, Murray was predeceased by his brothers George and Frank Johnston, and sisters Mary Tait and Grace Johnston.
Murray is survived by his beloved soulmate Erna Beer, and by his dear nephews Glendon and Wayne Tait.
Erna has met very few people with the exceptionally fine qualities that were to be found in Murray. Attributes such as loving kindness (especially to animals), straightforwardness, truthfulness, honesty, humility and great integrity. Despite all this, he was still a great protector of his ego: very few people ever got a glimpse of his inner soul. With mutual love and respect, they would talk confidently and implicitly to one another. In this way, they became soulmates and formed a bond which is very difficult, if not impossible, to sever.
Dear Soulmate
I shall remember you
In the magic of a summer’s day,
When my doorbell rang and you’d be standing there
And in joyous jest enquire, “Can you come out to play?”

I shall remember you
In the hallowed spots of shady country roads;
We’d stop, I’d sketch a church or monument,
And we’d eat our picnic food.

I shall remember you
In the wooded wilderness of Shepody,
Your sanctuary; there we sat together on a rock;
You picked a daisy and we plucked the petals:
He loves me, he loves me not.

I shall remember you
As I pluck the strings of my guitar and sing
That old familiar country sound you loved
And a song that you would finally join me in.

I shall remember you
When harbingers of spring are in the air;
Through tears I will remember what you meant to me;
I’ll feel you near and you will still be there.

I shall remember you
And the sad melodious strains of your violin;
The violin now hangs idly on the wall
But its sad strains still touch me deep within.

I shall remember you
And all the goodness that you meant to me;
We challenged life, we dared be young,
And lived what time we had simply but happily.

Now God has stilled your voice and taken you to rest,
But the happiness we’ve known will stay alive
By picture, sound, vista and memory,
This I will cherish till the day I die.

Farewell, my dear soulmate, I shall always remember and love you.

By Murray’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530.
In Murray's memory donations could be made to a charity of one’s choice.
