Elizabeth 'Betty' (MacNeil) Nicholson passed peacefully away at the age of 86 in Niagara Falls, Ont. on July 14, 2015.
Born in Sydney, N.S., on April 5, 1929, she was the eldest child of the late Stephen Lawrence and Helen (Maclean) MacNeil.
Betty graduated from Holy Angels Convent High School in Sydney and attended Mount St. Bernard College and St. FX University in Antigonish.
Beloved wife of the late Robert D. Nicholson (1997) she is survived by her six children, The Hon. Robert Nicholson (Arlene), Ruth Anne McAuley (Frank), John Hayes Nicholson (Anne), Helen Murphy (Dr.John), Bruce Nicholson (Monique) and Jean Markarian (Jim).
Betty was a loving sister to Francis 'Fa' MacNeil (Dolly), Mary Shea (Dr.Frank), Allister 'Al' MacNeil (Norma), Vincent 'Vinc' MacNeil (Etta), Douglas 'Dugga' MacNeil (Florence), Dr. John Hayes MacNeil (Elaine) and Elwin MacNeil (Jane).
Betty is also survived by 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Although Betty moved to Niagara Falls in 1951, she maintained close ties with her friends and family in Cape Breton returning each summer to her second home in Big Pond.
