FORD, SHIRLEY JOAN (LOCKHART)
Shirley Joan (Lockhart) Ford, Pointe Du Chene, NB 1933-2015, wife of Robert. Born in Humphrey Mills, Moncton, daughter of Ralph and Mary (Smith) Lockhart.
Educated in Moncton, Sackville, Sussex and Hillsborough, NB. Following high school, Shirley spent three years in the RCAF. After, she worked five years at the Department of Transport, weather office at the Moncton airport. During the 90’s she and her friend Eleanor Parrott, operated Fords' Gift Boutique at Ford’s Pharmacy, Riverview. Shirley volunteered with the Girl Guides, Support for Single Mothers, was a 40 year member of the IODE and she served 10 years on the vestry of St. James Anglican Church, including warden for three years.
When not hitting holes in one on the golf course she could be found challenging herself with the hardest crossword puzzles, or beating her many friends and family at scrabble or cribbage. She loved books and rarely missed her favorite shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Carpentry was another one of her many talents, building the garden shed and cottage extension with her own hands and ingenuity. She set out to see the world at a young age and held the passion for travel and discovery all her life.
She is survived by her husband Bob, sons Peter (Ellen), David (Scott), Bryce (Stacey), daughter-in-law, Anne Marie, sisters Connie Ward, Moncton, Jessie (Jay) Blight (Bill), Riverview, cousin Betty McNeill, Montreal and 14 wonderful grandchildren, Nicholas, Jessie, Christina, Anthony, Gina, Michael, Lucie, Robert, Terrah (Charlie), Steven, Ben, Eli, Matthew and Molly.
Besides her parents and in-laws Grace and Robert Ford, Shirley was predeceased by her son John Edward, sister Pamela Wall, brother Deane, sister-in-law Shirley Lockhart and brothers-in-law Wayne Ford and Harold Ward.
Shirley felt blessed and truly grateful for all the love and support from her close friends Brenda, Brian, Barb, Albert, Mike, Sharon, and Fran. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Nadeau, Doris Anne, the Oncology Team, the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre and the Shediac Extra-Mural staff for the excellent care she was provided.
Memorial Service will be celebrated at St. James Anglican Church, 101 Fairview Drive, Moncton on Friday July 31st, 2015 at 11:00 am, Rev'd Douglas Painter officiating. Refreshments will follow the service in the church hall. Interment will take place at St. Martin’s in the Woods Anglican Church Cemetery, Shediac Cape at 3:00pm. Arrangements are in care of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, (858-1995) Moncton.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital, CHU Dumont Foundation or charity of one’s choice.
