Donald Barr
BARR: Donald Allen aged 97 of Eastend, SK and formerly of Abbey, SK passed away on July 17, 2015 at the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre. The Memorial Service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 from the Abbey United Church with Reverend Salesi Takau officiating. The Interment Service took place from Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. The pianist was Amanda Faulk, eulogist was Rick Volden, ushers were Ken and Jason Volden, urn bearer was Christopher Velestuk-Volden, and honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Donald's life. Donald is survived by his nephews Ron (Ann) Volden, Larry (Verna) Volden, and Rick Volden; niece Joanne Volden (Peter Carver); niece-in-law Julie Volden; and three more generations of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Norman and Ida (nee Smith) Barr; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Loraine Volden; and nephew Bill Volden. Don attended school in Holborn, a country school near Abbey, and Abbey High School. Don farmed all his life in the Abbey area until his retirement at the age of 88. He was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and a life long member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Don enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, bird hunting, wood working, metal working and repairing whatever was broken. He served on the Abbey United Church Board for many years. He loved to roam the Sand Hills and River Hills. He was thrilled to find historical artifacts or natural wonders. Don spent the last two years of his life receiving excellent care at the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre.
