Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Carbonear General Hospital, Arthur Chipman Smith age 71 years of Spaniard's Bay. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley (nee Saunders); daughter Debbie Badcock; daughter Darlene Whelan (Shannon); daughter Pamela Hayes (Robert) and Wanda Dale Smith (predeceased); grandchildren: Tiffany Brazil (predeceased), Danielle McCabe (Lee), Blair Badcock (Tanya Eason), Shane Badcock (Megan Martin) and Keely Hayes; great-grandchildren: Lucas Brazil, Noah Brazil, Jayden Ivey, Shayla Martin and Bree McCabe; sister Sarah Noseworthy (Edward-predeceased) brother Harrison Smith (Geraldine) and Graham Smith; sister-in-law Sadie (Gordon) Fowler; sister-in-law Olive (Gary) Reid; sister-in-law Berdina (Alf) Andrews; brother-in-law David (Linda) Saunders; brother-in-law Wallace (Liz) Saunders; Edward (predeceased) Helen Saunders; Jim (predeceased) Florence Saunders. Also leaving to mourn many nieces and nephews and close friends.
In addition to Arthur and his wife Shirley operating a successful bakery and convenience store in Spaniard's Bay, he played a leadership role in many bodies in Freemasonry. He served a two year term as Right Worshipful Master of Lodge MacKay No. 1129 on the roll of the Grand Lodge of Scotland and was Master of Lodge McLeod No. 27 on the role of the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador on two separate occasions. He was also an enthusiastic Honorary Member of several Masonic Lodges in Trinity and Conception Bays. Arthur served a term as a member of General Purposes, Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador and filled offices with the District Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador, Grand Lodge of Scotland. Arthur was a faithful supporter of Scottish Rite; he served a term as president of the Trinity Conception Shrine Club as well as a member of other clubs within the Shrine; he was a member of the Royal Order of Scotland; a Past Master of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 28, Bishop's Cove, and a member of Corporal Matthew Brazil Branch No. 9 Royal Canadian Legion, Spaniard's Bay. Visitation will take place at Lynch's Funeral Home in Spaniard's Bay from Friday, August 7, 2015 from 7-9 pm, Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 10 am - 12 pm, 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm and Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 10 am - 12 pm, 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 2 pm at Holy Redeemer Church in Spaniard's Bay. Burial service to follow at Maul Tree Hill in Spaniard's Bay. No flowers by request.
