Rebecca "Beckie" Carew
1923 - 2015
Carew, Rebecca "Beckie", age 92, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully in Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home, Dartmouth, on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
Born in Kewstoke, Inverness Co., Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late George and Murdena (MacDonald) Ferguson. Beckie was a kind-hearted woman of faith, with a gentle spirit and loving to all. Beckie is survived by her husband, of 71 years, John Charles Carew, formerly of East Baltic, Prince Edward Island. Dear mother to, George (Susan), Stratford, P.E.I.; Dr. Dan (Jacqueline), Whitehorse, Yukon; and Murlane, Halifax; as well as by her granddaughter, Genevieve (Jere) Stack, and great-granddaughter, Evelyn, Chantilly, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Skye Glen, CB, and Florence, St. Peter's, CB, and many nieces and nephews.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her brothers: Malcolm (Mabel); Alex in infancy; her twin brother, Dan Hughie (Greta); Peter (Florence); Donald John (Phyllis) and her sisters, Catherine (John A.) MacLellan; Sarah (Donald John) Morrison; Annabelle (Carl) Betts; Florence (Peter L.) MacDonald; Margaret (Duncan) MacKinnon; Martha (Kenneth) MacKinnon.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 3 to 7 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, in Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh with Reverend Rachel Campbell officiating. Burial in Stewartdale Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Stewartdale Cemetery Fund; Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
