It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Gerald MacNamara, 79, of Frenchvale, on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015. Gerald passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Intensive Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Frenchvale, on Feb. 25, 1936, Gerald was the son of the late Clancy and Annie Mae MacNamara and was a member of St. Mary's Church, Frenchvale.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila (MacKinnon) MacNamara; son, Gordie, Frenchvale; daughters, Brenda (the late Jim Beaman), Georgia, USA and Linda (Mark) Presley, Berwick, N.S.; sister, Maureen Linden, Sydney and brother, Tommy MacNamara of Bedford, N.S.
He was predeceased by brothers, Johnny MacNamara and John Fitzgerald; sisters, Sarah, Alexina, Jean, Alice and Christina.
Gerald was a dedicated employee at Co-op Atlantic for 33 years. He was a wonderful story teller who shared and basked in the joy and laughter of each tale. He was also an avid sports fan, who especially loved hockey and baseball.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Visitation for Gerald will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday from St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
