Dava Ann Gustason (Gray)
August 12 1949 – August 4th 2015
Dava was born in Vancouver B.C. She was the oldest of 6 siblings Susan, Bob, Larry, Debbie, Bruce (predeceased) and the daughter of Jack and Patricia Gray. Dava married Brian Gustason in April 1971. Soon after her husband who worked for BC Hydro was transferred to Bella Coola. She was immediately offered a position with the Indian affairs as confidential secretary to the north coast superintendent. After only one year she once again packed up and moved to Vancouver island after another transfer. Being the happy, glass half full woman she had always been, never complaining about the abrupt moves.
In Ladysmith their first house was purchased with a spectacular view of the gulf islands Dava loved the location and the view, once again she went back to work for a lawyer in Nanaimo. After yet another (and their last) transfer for her and her husband to Squamish in 1975. This time she did complain as she was now pregnant with her first child Christian. But she quickly grew to love Squamish and call it her home for the rest of her life. Spending summers camping and fishing with her family. Having her second child Lauren born there in 1984. She had a job she loved for the District of Squamish in the planning department where she worked happily for over 25 years with no doubt, dedication and pride to that position.
Dava worked very hard and with great enthusiasm, especially while she raised money all year to buy gifts for Christmas Community Care. This alone was a feat in itself. In her time off shopping for CCC not seeking any kind of recognition just dedication to that cause.
But most of all she loved spending time with her daughter, son and granddaughter. With many weekends spent at their cabin in Birch Bay. She enjoyed cooking big meals for her family on Sundays, baking with her daughter Lauren and granddaughter Jayde. She was always happy to just be around the people she loved.
Dava loved life and life loved her back except when a serious illness got in the way. Which she faced like she did the rest of her life, with optimism, heart, courage and a smile on her face. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. she will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege to know her especially her family who will think of her with love and miss her everyday.
A special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Squamish General Hospital for all of your support to Dava and her family. We appreciate everything that you did for our mom.
Her celebration of life will be held at the Living Room restaurant located at the Garibaldi Springs golf course on Saturday August 15th at 3pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, an unwrapped gift is brought to the celebration for a child or teenager that will be donated to the Districts Dava Gustason Christmas Community Care fund in her honor.
