It is with heart felt sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Gilford 'Gick' McVicar on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at home with loving family at his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Gilford and Winnifred McVicar.
Dad was employed with S&L and Devco railway where he enjoyed many summers as conductor of the OLD 42.
Dad was a leader in his community with his service at Parkside Athletic Club and later served on Glace Bay Town Council. Along with his love for family Dad had a great love of sports including baseball, bowling, fishing and hockey.
Surviving are daughters, Melodie, Kristal and Trina; sons, Robbie, Brian and Kirby; sister Sis; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by wife Iris, brothers, Joe and Don, sisters, Audrey and Doreen and by special friend Camilla.
Visitation for Dad will be held on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015 from 6-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church with interment to take place in St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Cape Breton Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
