John Edward McHugh
With heavy hearts, the family of John McHugh announce his passing on August 16th, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on April 16th, 1942, he is the son of the late Maurice and Margeurite (Leary) McHugh and the loving husband of Donna (Doyle) McHugh. John worked for MacAvity’s earlier in his career, eventually moving to Parks and Recreation with the City of Saint John. He then retired in the mid 90’s due to health issues. He was a kind and loving man, who was so very proud of his children. He would do anything for anyone, and his family meant so much to him. John was also known to be “quite the character” and could often be found off on an adventure. He loved sports, bowling and playing baseball and darts over the years. He was the most devoted Yankees Fan and the winters were spent following the Habs and watching curling. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Along with his beloved wife Donna, he is survived by his sons Stephen (Tara), David (Holly), Michael (Sarah), daughter Brenda Blackwell (David); brothers Paul (Joan) and Blair (Paula), and sisters Marie Mabey, Margaret Burke (Robert). John is also survived by his grandchildren Kathryn (Jeff), Christopher (Alisha), Johnathon, Rebbecca, Mikhail, great-grandchildren Riley and Mikayla, as well as several extended family members and close friends.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Gerald “Beaver” McHugh and brother-in-law Reg Mabey. Special thanks to the Drs’, nurses and staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of John.
Although there will be no visitation, family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Tuesday, August 18th at 2:00 pm followed by a reception at the funeral home. Interment at a later date. Donations in in memory of John can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
