Grace Catherine Hitchcock (née Hopkins)
July 22, 1921- August 19, 2015
Grace was born in Vancouver, BC, the eldest daughter of Gordon and Kate Hopkins. She and her sisters Isabel (deceased) and Nancy grew up in Vancouver and Hopkins Landing. After senior matriculation and further education, Grace worked in a variety of secretarial jobs over the years.
Grace married Frank (deceased) in 1946. They moved to Prince Rupert and raised two children before returning south in 1970. Over the next 45 years, Grace lived in West Vancouver and on the Sunshine Coast.
Grace loved to swim, play piano, draw, paint, sing and write. Her faith and supporting her community were important to her. She was a long time member of the Hopkins Landing branch of the Sunshine Coast Health Care Auxiliary. Most of all she treasured and nurtured relationships with her family and the many friends she made during her 94 years.
Grace was much loved and will be missed greatly by her children Robert (Karen) and Runa (Paul), grandchildren Patricia (Peter), Tracy (Darren), Jan and Spencer (Lesley), great grandchildren Jessica, Claire, Landon, Pauline and Danika and extended family.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the wonderful staff at Christenson Village. Your care, attention, concern and thoughtfulness made all the difference in the last few years of her life.
A service will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 659 North Road, Gibsons, BC, at 2:00 pm on September 5, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Canadian Red Cross.
