Dorin Gamblin

On Wednesday, August 19th, 2015, Dorin Sandford Gamblin died after enduring a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
During her final five years she was blessed to be compassionately cared for by all of the staff at the South Cumberland Community Care Center in Parrsboro. For this her family is deeply grateful. Dorin was born on Easter Sunday 1923 in Orange, NJ. She was a war bride marrying Canadian soldier George A. Gamblin in 1946.
She was predeceased by husband, George in 1977; sister, Jean; beloved son, Peter, and Peter’s daughter Megan. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Gamblin, Welsford; NB; son, David (Patti), Florida; son, Sandy (Trish), Idaho; grandchildren, Greg, Christine, Nick, Steve, George, Alex and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Dessiea, Harlyn, Andrew, Noah, Eliana, Chloe, Luke, Charlotte and Lannah; niece, Kathy Bugdon (Gary), Bedford; nephew, Don Gamblin (Cathy), Spencer’s Island.
Dorin loved both her homeland and Canada. She was a member of the United Church of Canada in Brandon, Oromocto and Halifax. Her fondest memories included spending the month of August in Advocate and flounder fishing on the Bay of Fundy each day with her husband and children. She was passionate about the space shuttle program working for Boeing Aerospace in Cape Canaveral well into her 70’s. She loved the Space Station robotic arm with the Canadian flag on it. Dorin knit hundreds of hats for the Caps for Kids Foundation and made all sorts of sewn items for those in nursing homes and other charities.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 2 pm at Trinity United Church in Parrsboro with Rev. Susan Gamblin officiating. A reception will follow in the hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society, the South Cumberland Care Centre Foundation, Parrsboro or to a charity of your choice.
