Catherine Renelda Howard of Bras d'Or passed away peacefully on Aug. 31, 2015, surrounded by her family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
Born in Sydney Mines on Aug. 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lucy (MacConville) Bailey.
Renelda returned to Cape Breton in 1979, and worked at The Smoke Shop at Zellers in North Sydney for 16 years. She enjoyed many family vacations with her children and grandchildren. Renelda will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and sister, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Rose Marie Rutherford (Lou), Rhonda Brown, Susan Cervantes (Paul), Stephen Howard (Brenda) and Gary Howard (Lisa). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Margaret, Stephanie, Catherine, Amanda, Angela, Sarah Jane, Stephen, Melissa, Melanie, Kenneth, Christine, Chelsey, Regan, 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Anne Howard and brothers, Arthur Bailey and David Bailey. She will also be missed by her furry little companion, Jake.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Sid and her sisters, Rose Mary and Agnes brother, John.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will follow at the Florence Legion.
