Gordon Allsen
ALLSEN: Gordon Arthur age 73 of Swift Current, SK passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 28, 2015 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. A private family graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from Mount Pleasant Burial Park with family member Debbie Folk officiating. Gord was born on May 17, 1942 in Tisdale, SK, moving with his family to Cabri, SK in 1955. On May 19, 1962 Gord married Millie Bitz, and they moved to Swift Current and raised three children. Gord started his career with the accounting firm of Burroughs, Hanlon and Weber. He moved to the private sector to spend 25 years in the health industry. He started his career in health with the first four years as Director of Finance for the Swift Current Union Hospital. Upon attaining his Canadian College Health Services Executives designation, he became the Administrator, a position he held until the formation of the Swift Current Health District. He became the first CEO of the Swift Current Health District a position he retired from in 1997. During his time in the health system he spent countless hours in various provincial boards. Gord was very instrumental in spear heading the implementation of defibrillators in ambulances. Unbeknown to him this equipment provided him with 12 extra years of life. He spent his retirement with winters in Yuma, AZ and summers on the golf course. Gord was an active member in his community, he was involved with the ACT Club, Elmwood Golf Club, a season ticket holder and avid supporter of the Swift Current Broncos from the early 1970's to today, past member of the Elks Lodge, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis Club. Sports was always a strong part of Gord's life, he played golf, hockey, ball, football and curled. He always enjoyed a good game on TV, he was very excited about the Blue Jays run for the pennant this year. Gord is survived by his wife Millie; children Michele (Cal), Larry (Joanne), and Cheryl (Justin); grandchildren Melissa (Kenny) and Rhett (Michelle); sister Darlene (Bob) Mrazek; brother-in-law Jerry (Donna) Bitz; sister-in-law Barb Bitz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Art and Hazel Allsen; parents-in-law Nick and Eva Bitz; and brother-in-law Dusty Bitz. Gord touched the lives of many and he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff of Swift Current Ambulance and the Critical Care department of the Cypress Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Gord and his family.
