Edith Emmaline MacKenzie

Lieu de naissance : Wadden's Cove

Lieu de décès : St. Peter's
Date de décès : 3 septembre 2015

Edith Emmaline MacKenzie, age 87 of Hay Cove, Richmond County, passed away peacefully on Sept. 3, 2015.
Born in Wadden’s Cove, Edie was the daughter of John James Boutilier and Florence May (Watson) Boutilier.
She was the last surviving member of her family.
At an early age Edie moved to Dominion with her family and, being a very independent young woman, left school early to go to work and get on with life. She worked a succession of jobs before landing at the Glace Bay General where she was to meet her future husband, John F. MacKenzie. The two married in 1954 and Edie moved to Hay Cove, where she became a member of Sacred Heart Parish. From her first cup of tea made by her nephew, Steve Donahue, to leaving in Feb. 2014, Hay Cove was her cherished home. She spent the remaining 18 months of her life as a resident of the Richmond Villa in St. Peter's.
The world knew her as Edie but to her family she was the greatest mother and grandmother that any child could ever hope for. She was a truly compassionate person and was fiercely loyal and protective of her family. She was quite simply the centre of our universe; the matriarchal magnet who drew us all together. What she may have lacked in terms of formal education, she more than made up for in wisdom and common sense. She took her strength from God and parceled it out lovingly to anyone in need. She left us with a legacy of love and humility.
We, her family, are terribly saddened by mom’s passing but gladdened that the long goodbye is over and that she is now with her Lord. The memories of her playing cards with family and friends, picking berries with her children and grandchildren, and baking bread for all to enjoy will sustain us for eternity. Mom, you have done your work and brought joy to many; rest in peace.
Our mom is survived by her sons, Bobby (Shirley) Boutilier, Stephen Boutilier, Glace Bay; Joe (Barbara) Boutilier- Woodstock, Ont.; Kevin (Eileen) MacKenzie, Lower Sackville and Shaun MacKenzie, Halifax and by daughters, Margaret (Michael Sutherland) MacKenzie, Soldier’s Cove; Martha (David) MacNeil; Debbie (Gary) MacKenzie/Campbell, Hay Cove; Sharon MacNeil, Marion Bridge; Mary (Dan) Young, Halifax. Nanny also leaves behind 23 grandchildren - two (Jamie and Anita Boutilier) that she raised as her own, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a bushel of love for them all. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John F.; daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Ronnie MacNeil. Many nephews and nieces are left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Richmond Villa for their care of our mother during her stay in St. Peter's. Your kindness will always be appreciated.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, Johnstown, on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Joe Gillis presiding.
Memorial donations may be made to the Richmond Villa Recreation department or the charity of your choice.
