Donna Marie with her family at her side, Donna passed away in Glace Bay Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at 66 years of age, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Hayward Russell and her infant sister Sharon.
Donna will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Brian, her daughters, Andrea Madore (Malcolm), Sharon Locke (Ronnie), Crystal Poirier (Fabian) all of Glace Bay and son Brian Brewer (Trista) of Lloydminster, Alta., grandchildren, Beth, Sandra, Emma, Gracie, Olivia, Kyle, Declan and Ryder. She is also survived by her brothers, William Russell (Linda) of Greenwood, N.S., Martin Russell (Lynn) of Glace Bay, Glenn Russell of Glace Bay and Robbie Russell (Serena) of Whitehorse, YT, one sister Valerie Thomson (Willie) of Glace Bay, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and also the “Yah Yah Sisters” – Linda, Irene and Joanne.
Donna enjoyed being active. She was an avid and accomplished dart player, organizer of youth darts, enjoyed bowling, bingo and on top of everything made certain never to miss an event in either the life of her kids or her grandkids. Her tenacious spirit and love of her family is what helped give her the courage to fight through her illness.
A visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and again from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday both at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Salvation Army Church in Glace Bay.
