DAVIDGE, WILLIAM ROBERT "BOB"
The passing on of William Robert "Bob" Davidge peacefully in his sleep occurred September 9, 2015 at the Veterans Health Centre in Moncton, 23 days short of his 92nd birthday.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Carrie Alberta (Sharpe) Davidge of Campbellton NB; two brothers, Elton and John; a daughter, Lynn; son, Keith (Heather ) and former wife, Dorothy.
Survived by three sons, Brock (Karen) of Keswick Ridge, Douglas (Jane) of Ottawa, ON, James (Enid) of Saturna, BC; daughter-in-law, Heather Jones of Yarmouth, NS and grandchildren Mark (Krista) of Ottawa, Tanya Thun (Fred) of Calgary, AB, Carrie Kollias (Tom) of Lethbridge, AB, Andrew (Anna Kramer) of Toronto, ON, Erin (Brendan Murphy) of Ottawa, ON, Guildor (Melissa Thompson) of Medicine Hat, AB, Genevieve Davidge-Smith (Simon) of Peace River, AB, Tegen Davidge of Vancouver, BC and nine great-grandchildren.
Prior to marriage, Bob served in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII over two years on Corvette submarine destroyers. He was employed with Canada Post, but after the death of his daughter and birth of a new son in 1957, he joined Great West Life Assurance in Newcastle, NB. Bob moved to Moncton in 1959 as District Manager, then to Saint John in 1961 as Branch Supervisor. He returned to Moncton to stay in 1964. In 1973, he became an Estate Planning Associate with Canada Life for over twenty years.
He was raised in a Christian home with his faith in Jesus Christ taking on a new life in 1997. After a men’s conference held in Moncton, he became very desirous of learning more of God’s word as a student of the Holy Bible.
Bob was always active in the community. He made valuable contributions by providing strong leadership to Moncton Headstart, Rotary International, Chartered Life Underwriters, Maritime Band Festival, Congregational Church of Moncton, Kinsmen Club, New Brunswick Lawn Bowling Association, Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, Air Canada Silver Broom and numerous other organizations and events. He was Campaign Manager in 1991 for COR Party MLA Gordon Wilden of Riverview. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Bob received the Governor General’s Commemorative Medal in 1992 in recognition of outstanding contributions to community life for over thirty years to the citizens of the Greater Moncton area.
Visitation will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm, followed immediately by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, with Canon Jon Lownds presiding, commencing with a Moncton Legion Branch #6 Memorial Service. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre immediately following the service.
The family wishes to thank the Staff at the Veterans Health Centre and Dr. Landry for the care and compassion given to Bob.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moncton Headstart Inc. or a charity of the donor’s choice.
