It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dolena Mae "Dolly" Melanson, age 81, of Amherst. Dolly passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Williamsdale, NS, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Blanche (McMaster) Reid.
She moved to Ontario with her husband Carl, and worked in various banks as a teller and in the loans department. Following their retirement they returned to Amherst.
She is survived by brothers Eldon Reid of Oxford and Wendell (Margaret) Reid of Williamsdale, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Carl Melanson only months ago, brothers Howard, Arlin and Percy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst and River Hebert, NS (902-667-8777). Visiting hours will take place at the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, 70 Church St., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will take place from St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church in River Hebert on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 10 am, Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Following the Funeral Mass, Dolly's remains will be cremated and her ashes will be buried in the St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie, NS at a later date. A light lunch in the Parish Hall provided by the Parish will follow the funeral.
