Doris Peacock
Date de décès : 9 septembre 2015
It is with loving hearts we share the passing of our wife, mother and grannie Doris Merle Peacock, who passed away peacefully on September 9, 2015 at the Wolf Willow Health Centre in Eastend, SK. with family by her side.
Doris was predeceased by her parents David and Mabel Gordon and her brother David Gordon. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Bill Peacock of Frontier, SK, her children Calvin (Shannon) of Frontier, SK and granddaughter Melissa of Regina, SK; Donnie (Kelly) of Swift Current and granddaughters Claire and Jill both of Saskatoon, SK; and Vince (Jenny) and grandsons Nicholas and Conner all of Edmonton, AB; as well as her sister in law Gertie Gordon of Eastend and nephew Curtis (Glenna) Gordon of Eastend and their family.
Doris was born on her parent’s farm south of Eastend on April 29, 1927. She attended Uxbridge School and did correspondence classes to graduate from high school. From there she went on to further her education and studied nursing in Moose Jaw and took a neonatal course in Montreal. She worked as a nurse in Swift Current, Maple Creek and Eastend. Upon returning back to the Eastend area she married Bill on June 16, 1956 in Swift Current. They spent many years farming and ranching together on their homestead north of Frontier. It was here that they welcomed the births of their three sons Calvin, Donnie and Vince. Life was full of hard work on the farm but they took joy and pleasure in many family trips, with the great state fair in Great Falls being one of the most repeated and favoured. Doris also enjoyed spending time baking with neighboring friends in preparation for holiday festivities. No one ever left Doris’ kitchen feeling hungry or empty handed. Doris passed time with hobbies like gardening, her pets, reading and listening to CBC radio. When her sons went on to marry and have grandchildren she treasured each new member of the Peacock family. Doris considered family as one of the most important things in life, which was obvious to us all in the gentle and kind way she cared so deeply for each one of us. Doris also valued her faith in God and attended church in Frontier. After many years on the farm in July 2013 Doris retired to Wolf Willow Health Centre, where she would complete the final chapter of her life. She enjoyed the company of all the residents and staff.
The funeral service was held at Bethel Lutheran Church on September 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. The eulogy was presented by Donnie Peacock and Jill Peacock. Special music was by Maureen Nelson and the pianist was Janice Friggstad. Interment took place at the Ridgely Cemetery followed by lunch at the church. Pallbearers were Mark Evenson, Bruce Evenson, Terry Evenson, Warren Fossum, Garry Fossum, Alan Erickson.
