Jean Augusta McLean (MacBurnie)

McLean (MacBurnie), Jean Augusta – 92, formerly of Truro, passed away September 9, 2015. Born in Wentworth, October 23, 1922, she was the second daughter of the late James Allison and Bertha May (Betts) MacNutt. Jean was a floral designer for most of her working life having worked for Suckling and Chase Florists in Truro for many years before operating her own flower shop, Jean’s Florists, which she operated from 1975 until her retirement in 1981. Jean was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church in Truro, having served the Church as a CGIT leader, Sunday school teacher, Elder and member of Session, and most recently attended St. John’s United Church in Moncton. She was a former member and Past President of the Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 in Truro and was an honorary member with the Auxiliary at Branch 6 in Moncton and worked well into her 80’s with the Poppy Campaign. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Moncton. Surviving are her “kids” as she liked to call them, Lyn (Jim) MacArthur, Hilden; Jim (Wendy) Patriquin, Dartmouth; Thane (Laura) Patriquin, Tatamagouche. She was “Nana” to Taylor (Stephanie) MacArthur and their son Nicolas, John Robert (Catherine Basar) MacArthur, Allison (Leigh Marshall) Patriquin, James Patriquin, Emily Patriquin, Thomas (Courtney Nicholson) Patriquin, Mark Patriquin and Sarah Patriquin; sisters-in-law, Phyllis MacLellan and Muriel McLean; cousins, Basil “Bud” (Myrna) MacDonald, Douglas (Carol) Betts, Wyman “Bun” (Jean Wood) Betts; nieces, Sadie (Hector) Tattrie and Jean Mingo; husband, Robert O’Hara and his family in N.B.; She was predeceased by her first husband, Dannie MacBurnie, Second husband, Art McLean; sisters, Annie Grace, in childhood; Ruth Patriquin and husband, Otis; foster-brother, Bill Purdy and wife, Ella. With respect for Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no visitation will be held. A service to honour her life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 in St. Andrew’s United Church, King St., Truro, Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (902-657-3288). Interment will be in Wentworth Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, but memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, St. Andrew’s United Church or Wentworth Cemetery would be appreciated.
