It is with great sadness that we, the family of Hazel Catherine MacDonald, announce that she passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at the Glace Bay Hospital, with family at her side.
Born and raised in Port Morien, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bridget (Hart) Clements.
Hazel was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien. She was an avid dart player, both in Port Morien and Donkin legions. Known as Nana Hazel by her grandsons, Cody, John Thomas, Charles, John and her great-grandson, Ryker; she was well known in the community for being a caring caregiver to many.
Hazel is survived by her partner, Eddie Borden; son, Stewart (Brenda); daughter, Ethel (Blair) and her stepson, Jarrod; brothers, Junior (Tori), Allie (Bertie), Barry (Rhoda), John Robert (Belinda); sisters, Marilyn (Albert), Sharon (Jim), Mary (Leonard) and also by many nieces and nephews.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband, John Roy; brothers, James, Hun, Louis; sisters, Ethel, and Freda.
Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation, and a funeral service will be on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien at 2 p.m., with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Port Morien. Reception will take place in church hall.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
