Harley Eugene Harvie - 89, of Kentville, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on January 13, 1926 in Mount Denson, Hants County, he was the son of the late Amos and Lottie K. (Shaw) Harvie. Harley grew up as a farm boy in Mount Denson but transitioned to being a business man. He was often known as "The Oil Man" from 1957-1992 as he worked for Imperial Oil and he and his wife operated Harley Harvie Fuel Oils Ltd. for Kentville and surrounding areas. In retirement, he returned to his farm boy roots to enjoy his love of agriculture and livestock and enjoyed travelling to draft horse shows across Canada and the USA with his wife, family and friends and he could often be found at exhibitions showing draft horses with his granddaughter, Trish. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frena (MacInnis); his daughter, Carol Dale; his two granddaughters, Angela Dale, Rankin Inlet, Nunavut and Patricia Dale, Moncton, New Brunswick; sister, Marjorie Cooper, Kentville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son-in-law, Robert Charles Dale and a brother-in-law, Charlie Cooper. Visitation was held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service and reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory can be made to Valley Regional Hospital.
