We, the family of Shirley Russell, are saddened to announce her passing on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Shirley was the daughter of the late James and Norah (Butler) Holley.
Prior to her marriage, Shirley was employed at the Canadian National Railway, where she continued to work part time over the years until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; three daughters, Jeanne, Margaret Ann and Sharon (Jim Putt) and sister, Jean Holley. Shirley is also survived by three grandchildren, Cherie McVicar, Holley and Ryan Putt, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sister, Margaret York.
A memorial service will be held at the United Heritage Church, Townsend and Charlotte streets on Friday 2 p.m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Following the service a reception will be held in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Philae Shriners Hospital for Sick Children or a charity of your choice.
