We, the family of John Charles 'Jack' Marshall, 91, regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Jack was a resident of Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay and formerly lived on Webster Street, Whitney Pier.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lenora (Howell) Marshall.
Jack served overseas during the Second World War. He worked at Sydney Steel until retirement and was the last surviving member of the original Pentecostal Church, Sydney.
Surviving are his nieces, Phyllis (Charles) Holloran, Bonnie Nicholson (Peter Hill), Linda (Dennis) Weatherby and Virginia (Wesley) Cromwell and nephews, Billy (Hilma) Besso, Wayne (Tonya) Besso and Brian (Karen) Besso, all of Sydney, as well as many grand and great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Besso and Elsie May (in infancy).
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Sydney Pentecostal Church, Victoria Road on Saturday 2 p.m., with Pastor Ron Coole officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
