Fred Victor Remo, age 90, of Taigh Na Mara and a former, longtime resident of Dominion, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Burgeo, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne (Benoit) Remo.
Fred was a veteran of the Second World War; serving with the Merchant Navy. After the war, he served as chief engineer and skipper on several fishing boats. He enjoyed wood working as a hobby. Fred will be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved his family dearly.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Marina (Roth) Remo; two sons, Albert (Debbie), Alfred; one brother, Ron (wife, Edith, deceased); one sister, Dorothy Allen; one grandchild, Justine Scott (David) and two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Katherine Scott.
Fred was predeceased by his son, Frederick in 1975, three brothers, Stan, Bill, Harry and four sisters, Mary, Winifred, Gussie and Hilda.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., both in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Martha MacDonald will officiate.
Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
