Hora, Ilona

Ilona passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lloyd (1983) and by her infant daughter Julia (1963). Loving mother of Theresa and Elizabeth, she will also be missed by her nephews Ted (Cory) Young, Abbey Anderson, by her niece Ingrid “Smokey” Young and many great-nephews and nieces. Ilona was born in Budapest, Hungary and was orphaned as an infant. She was a Red Cross nurse during the 1957 Hungarian Revolution, fleeing to Austria at the age of 27. She immigrated to Canada in 1957, where she met and married Lloyd. The couple homesteaded and raised their family in the Mankota and Wide View area until they retired due to health concerns. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1975 and Ilona took a job as a cleaner for the city. Ilona enjoyed playing cards, cooking, gardening, and family meals together. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Albert Catholic Church in Mankota with Father Joseph Strohhofer presiding. Interment will follow at the Mankota Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ilona to The Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3, would be appreciated.
