Fisher, Hazel Elizabeth, 87, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on September 20th, 2015, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Sandy Point, Shelburne County, on October 7th, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Pearl (Butler) Bower. Hazel is survived by daughter, Sheryl Majocha, of Victoria, B.C.; son, Donald Eugene (Janice Wolfe), of Brooklyn; granddaughters Amanda Fisher, of Brooklyn, Amy Fisher, of Eastern Passage; great-grandson, Elijah Maynard, of Brooklyn. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald; sister, Doris. Above all else, Hazel was most passionate about her family and spending time with them. She graduated from Provincial Normal College in Truro and also furthered her education over the years with courses from Dalhousie and Acadia Universities. She was a school teacher for over 30 years, she also taught adult education for three years, was a trustee for the Brooklyn School Board for six years and was past secretary of the Retired Teachers Organization. Hazel was very active in the church over the years having taught Sunday School for 32 years, a former choir member of St Peter’s Church, Sandy Point and also at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Brooklyn where she also served as a Lay Reader and Parish Clerk. She was a trustee of Queens Historical Society, past member of the Milton Heritage Society, past president of the Queens Arts and Crafts Council, past regent for the Gorham Chapter of the IODE and a committee member of Friends of Ralph Boutilier. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, reading, spending time at the family cabin at Long Lake and she was also an avid bridge player. A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2015, at 11:00 A.M., from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool, followed by a reception with Reverend Bonnie Baird officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Bog Road, Liverpool. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Queens General Hospital Foundation or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Association.
