Gordon Heman Reid
“To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”
The family of Gordon Reid would like to thank the following during this time of his passing:
With so many phone calls, flowers and the food, donations to the church and for those who came from out of town, it would be impossible to name you all but you are in our thoughts.
Jeanette Walshman, for filling Dad’s request for singing “Going Home.” Dad was very moved by this.
Mountainview Retirement Centre staff: As Dad would say, “you are all God’s angels.” Thank you for giving Dad all the care in the last 13 months, he spoke highly of each of you. Thank you for taking the time to visit the hospital, the funeral home and to those who formed the Honour Guard at the church - thank you.
Mountainview Retirement Centre residents who Dad always considered as all of his “sisters and brothers.” The residents held their own memorial service and planted the Burning Bush in Penney’s Pook.
To Janet House, Lindsay Griffin and Beverley McIssac from Western Health Community Support Division - When Dad made his decision to move into MVRC you girls were always there to support us to make his last year a very happy one. Thanks for the guidance and encouragement right to the end.
Thank you to Lillian and Stanley Dalley who became special friends to Dad over the past few years.
Major Ray Janes, who was on vacation, but took the time for Dad during his short stay in the Palliative Care Unit and for taking part in the church service. Another one of Dad’s requests.
Rev. David Russell, you will never know how much we appreciated you being there when we needed you. About the third time, you were there for such an emotional moment, and you continued to be there. Thanks so much!!
Rev. Jocelyn Cook: A special angel who never left us, she was always there for us and her kind words will never be forgotten. God sends special people in our lives when you need them the most and she was sent to us.
To the United Church choir for taking part in the church service and the UCW for the beautiful lunch.
Thank you to Sherri Jones (granddaughter), who could not attend the service because she is deployed with the Canadian military, but wrote the eulogy.
Miranda Church: Thank you for reading the eulogy for Sherri. Miranda was always there for us, when we needed her. She was very strong for us, when we couldn’t be.
The nurses on 4B and the Palliative Care Unit during his short stay.
Dr. Coleman — “Good Doctor” as Dad would say. Thank you for making your visits, listening to Dad’s stories and always putting a smile on his face.
Dr. McKenzie, who made time everyday to check in on Dad and to update us. It was always a pleasure to see you.
To the pallbearers: grandsons — Shawn Young, Michael Jesso, Christopher Baker and Jeffery Reid and nephews — George Earle Sr. and Gordie Cross.
To the Legionnaires, you were wonderful in completing the service with the Last Post. You all did such a good job and touched our hearts knowing Dad would have loved it.
