It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of Samuel 'Sam' Clarke, age 86, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at home.
Born in North Sydney, on April 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Robert and Beatrice Clarke.
He worked for many years delivering coal. Sam was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also involved with harness racing, he owned and trained his own horses.
He is survived by his common-law wife of 46 years, Mary MacDonald Gushard; his stepchildren, Billy Gushard, Rose (Doug) MacKinnon, Elizabeth Skinner, Theresa (Ivan) Nickerson; his 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister D1rothy Bungay, Ontario; sister-in-law Irene Clarke and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald and Cecil Clarke and Robert Dakin.
Visitation for Sam will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney followed by a committal service at Lakeside Cemetery with Marjorie Serafinus officiating.
