MACDONALD, James “Ian”
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden death of Ian MacDonald of Fredericton North (Nashwaaksis) NB on Thursday, September 24, 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane MacDonald and three children, Jane Van Horne (John) of Campbellton, NB, Rev. Dr. James MacDonald (Debbie) of Moncton, NB, Jeffrey MacDoanld (Jacky) of Isle of Wight, UK and, eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, and Jill Van Horne, Caleb and Abbey MacDonald, and Heather, Phoebe and Ewan MacDonald, as well as his nephews Alan Prescott (Cindy), Chris Prescott (Heather) and his niece, Janet MacLeod and their children Dr. Erica Allen (James Richardson),
Gray, Jessica, Spencer (Krista), Jared and Mason Prescott. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Ruth (Humble) MacDonald, his sister, Cathryn MacLeod and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan MacLeod, Robert and Hazel Prescott.
Born in Campbellton, NB, Ian spent most of his life in Fredericton, NB and lived in the house that he built, his beloved home, together with Mary Jane, for 64 years. Ian was a Registered Professional Forester, (UNB alumnus, Bachelor of Science in Forestry - class of 1949) and lan retired as secretary for the NB Forest Products Commission at the age of 69, with a wealth of forestry related consulting experience. Ian was also a pilot, and veteran of WW II, a member of the Fredericton North Rotary Club (1977-present), and a member of Nashwaaksis United Church (and member of Woolastook Presbytery). Through the years Ian also devoted many volunteer hours as an Elected School Trustee and an NB Library Association Trustee for 31 and 29 years respectively and a member and director of CASARA (Civil Air Search and Rescue Association) and several other organizations. He was proud of the awards of merit received from these volunteer commitments. He mentored many over the years. Ian listed his personal interests, in the following order of priority, his grandchildren, flying, reading, card playing and hunting.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton North, on Monday, September 28, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. J.D. Kennedy officating. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery.
