Date de décès : 25 septembre 2015
The family of George A. MacKinnon, age 73, regret to announce his death on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 at home, with his family by his side, after a long illness.
George grew up in Dutch Brook, but spent the last 49 years living in Port Morien. He was the son of the late Dougall and Florence (Lund) MacKinnon.
He was a truck driver for Eastern Transport, Merle Kerr Construction, and operated a snow plow for the Department of Transportation.
George is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Adele (Cochrane); daughters, Bernadette and Carrie Lynne; three grandchildren, Emily, Greg and Nichole; his brother, Robert (Hazel) MacKinnon; sister, Lorraine (John) MacDonald; brother-in-law, Myron (Margie) Cochrane and sister-in-law, Brenda Cochrane.
George was given a second chance at life, when he received a kidney from his friend, Eric Giovanetti.
This last year, George’s comfort and care was under the most amazing people from the Cape Breton Cancer Center, Palliative Care, VON, Continuing Care and Cape Breton County Homemakers. The care and support George and his family received from Myron and Margie, helped not only keep him at home, but gave us a rock to lean on during this difficult time.
The funeral service, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Morien. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the Port Morien Fire Hall.
Donations in George’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
