We, the family, of Elizabeth 'Bette' Polegato (Stephenson) sadly announce her passing after a courageous battle with cancer on Sept. 29, 2015 at the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Francis and Gladys (Boone) Stephenson.
Bette was born and raised in Cape Breton until moving to Detroit, Mich. where she graduated from Clarenceville High School and from there returned to Nova Scotia to attend university in Antigonish.
After having five children, she completed her studies and graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital as a registered X-ray technician. She worked at St. Joseph's hospital until her retirement.
Besides her parents, Bette was predeceased by a brother, Art (Kaye).
Bette is survived by her children, Bonnie (John) McPherson, Alberta, Lindie, Hamilton, Rick (Mary), Ottawa, Steve (Linda), Manitoba, Warren (Karri), New Brunswick. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Elise, Brandon, Michael, Kevin and Leah and great-grandchildren, Kaysen and Seth.
Bette made a lasting impression on those that knew her with her infectious laugh and acts of kindness.
As per her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens with Fr. Leo Boone officiating on Friday.
Memorials may be made to Palliative Care An Cala Unit or Cape Breton Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
