Melvin Duncan Currie of Big Pond, son of John Angus and Margaret (Power) Currie of St. Peter's passed on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Melvin worked for MT&T for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. He and his wife, Sue, moved to his new home in Big Pond, which was ideal for his favourite hobbies of hunting and fishing. He was one of the founding members the C.B. Search and Rescue Association and a member of the Big Pond Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by Sue (MacKinnon) Currie his wife of 51 years; loving mother-in-law, Amelia MacKinnon and children, Michael, Bill and Heather. As well as grandchildren, John Michael, James, Kayla, Erika, Micaela and Corbin and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Amelia and Abigale.
Predeceased by parents, John Angus and Margaret Currie; brother, Keats and father-in-law, Reginald MacKinnon.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond, with Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Burial to follow in parish cemetery.
