Krystyna Maria Pawlowska (nee Raczkiewicz)
Date de décès : 9 octobre 2015
Daughter of Wladyslaw and Irena, passed in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the 9th of October, 2015. She was surrounded by her family. She successfully battled leukemia for over 20 years, but was taken by a rapidly progressing brain cancer. She is survived by her husband, Jacek Pawlowski, and three children, Kamil, Lukasz, and Irena. Krystyna was born in 1946, in northern France to Polish parents, who had been taken from their farm in Poland, to a forced labour settlement by the German occupying administration, during the Second World War. Upon the war's end, her family returned to a changed Poland ruled by the Soviet-imposed communist regime. Krystyna educated herself at the Technical University of Gdansk, attaining a Masters degree in Naval Architecture. She worked briefly at the Vistula Shipyard in Gdansk, and subsequently at the Szewalski Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1973, she married Jacek Pawlowski, also a naval architect. In 1980, she supported the Solidarity movement in Gdansk that initiated the demise of Soviet rule in Poland, and then Europe. In 1981, she joined her husband in London, UK, and in 1984, with their three children, they made their home in St. John's. She taught physics for almost 30 years at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where generations of students experienced her care, attention, and insight, many benefiting from her additional help and generous spirit. Throughout her years in Newfoundland, she shared her love of its beautiful scenery, exploring the coastline and hidden places, with her husband, children and friends. She was fond of the stories of Newfoundland, its wildflowers and its landscapes, returning to favorite places, like Brigus, whenever time allowed. A public viewing took place at Caul's Funeral Home on Thursday, October 15th, 2015, from 10:30 am until 9 pm. The funeral mass was held Friday, October 16th, 2015, at 10:30 am in the Chapel at Caul's. She is to be interred at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paschal Baylon Mission at the time of viewing.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
