John Lauchlin MacKinnon, 83, of Margaree Harbour passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 15, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Margaree Harbour, he was the son of the late John L. and Rebecca (Dunn). John was a proud farmer, fisherman and coal miner. Over the years he was active in many community organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Clark); his children, Elaine (Fred) MacLeod, North Sydney; Linda (Leo) MacDougall, Cole Harbour; Janice, Halifax; Lauchie (Noella). Gerard (Barbara) and Brendan (Lisa), all of Margaree Harbour; grandchildren, Erin (Will), Ian (Katelyn), Kaela, Andrew, Jonathan, Matthew, Rebecca, John L., Nolan, Malcolm, Robert, Jessie, Ryder, Emma, Lynn and Breagh; great-grandchild, Georgia and siblings Chris (Roy) Cameron, Angus L. (Anne) MacKinnon, Marie (Jim) Guilford, Sally MacKinnon; sister-in-law, Marge MacKinnon and brother-in-law, Michael LeBlanc; and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by infant son, James Bernard; grandchildren, John Ronald and Joseph Anthony; son-in-law, Leo MacDougall and brother, Myles and sister, Carmella.
A sincere thank you to the entire health care team who provided exemplary care for our dad which enabled him to stay in his home. Their personal touch brought pleasure to his day.
Visitation will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday Oct. 18 at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, East Margaree.
Funeral mass will be held Monday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Parish, East Margaree, with Fr. Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to palliative care of a charity of one’s choice.
