Clifford "Cliff" Norman Sadler, passed away surrounded by his loving wife Jane and his children at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015.
Cliff is survived by his wife Jane Sadler (nee Burke), sons Ryan (Michelle) and Adam (Laura), and daughter Erin Leith (nee Morrison); his beloved grandchildren Noah, Cohen, Eleanor and Mira; father David Sadler of Orillia, Ontario, and brother Donald Oliver. Cliff is predeceased by his mother Ann Sadler (nee Pringle), birth father Fred Oliver, and sisters Pat, Dorothy and Barb.
Cliff was born on September 14, 1951 in Toronto, Ontario. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Cliff earned his Red Seal in 1973 and worked as a commercial electrician for the Canadian Coast Guard in Dartmouth, N.S., until 1976. He later trained as a helicopter pilot in Quebec, working first for Heli Voyageur on the James Bay Hydro Electric Project transporting personnel to service remote power lines. Later, he began a long career as a member of the Canadian Coast Guard. In 1992, Cliff met and married Jane (nee Burke) in Fall River, N.S. Cliff loved to fly, and as multi-aircraft trained pilot he flew countless search and rescue, and transport operations throughout Atlantic Canada, Quebec, British Columbia and the north. From 1990 to 1998 he became Regional Director of Helicopter Operations at 12-Wing Shearwater in Nova Scotia until his promotion to Aviation Operations Officer at Canadian Coast Guard Headquarters with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Ottawa, Ontario in 1998. In 2004, he retired at which time he and Jane relocated to Charlottetown, P.E.I. to live their dream of a life on the water with family and their many friends. He will be deeply missed.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Friday 2:30-4 p.m., immediately followed by a service of remembrance at the funeral home at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cliff's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (P.E.I.).
